Treatment for Huntington disease
Treatment can help increase the comfort and safety of the affected person, family members, and caregivers. Huntington disease is an inherited disorder. Many people with Huntington’s have already had children by the time they are diagnosed. These children have a 50-50 chance of inheriting the gene for the disorder. The person with HD eventually becomes unable to make decisions about his or her care. It is best for the person to discuss future care arrangements with family members as early as possible, so that his or her wishes can be clarified and documented for the future. Your social worker can advise you about legal arrangements that should be made to ensure that these wishes are observed.
