Tests for celiac disease

Blood tests can be performed to diagnose celiac disease; these include endomysial antibodies, anti-tissue transglutaminase antibodies, and anti-gliadin antibodies. If you feel like having celiac disease symptoms, the best thing you can do is probably visiting your doctor. Children with celiac disease typically have diarrhea, increased amounts of fat in the stool (steatorrhea), flatulence (passing gas), short stature and weight loss. Proper treatment with a gluten-free diet can lead to accelerated (catch-up) growth in height; however, if untreated, childhood celiac disease can result in short stature as an adult. The terms latent and silent celiac disease are used to refer to individuals who have inherited the genes that predispose them to celiac disease but have not developed the symptoms or signs of celiac disease.
